I had written about the fastidiousness of The Hindu in correcting its own errors. Well the debate on 'Hydra' or 'Hydra-headed' seems to be continuing... : )

This is an excerpt from today's 'clarifications and corrections' :

Corrections and clarifications

Hydra does mean a mythical creature with many heads ("Corrections and Clarifications," October 28, 2006), as a reader had pointed out, questioning the use of "hydra-headed monster" (in the strapline in the report "Manmohan: internal security prime concern", October 27, 2006). But another reader argues that the objection is against accepted usage. In talking metaphorically about a problem with multifaceted ramifications, the use of "hydra-headed monster" must be acceptable. There are instances in writing where hydra alone is used, but are rare. As this reader points out, when an organisation has many centres or branches, it is quite correct to say it is "a hydra-headed organisation."

Don't know about you, but I, for one, am in the Hydra-headed camp.
